It’s been raining Smartphones by Samsung Electronics, to add one more to it it has launched the new Samsung Galaxy Chat, with touch & type facility. It is an entry level touch & type smartphone in the Galaxy line-up of smartphones. It runs on Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich and has a 4-row QWERTY Keyboard out of the box. Let’s go straight to the specification for the phone.

Form factor

Samsung Galaxy Chat is designed with Candybar form factor at the core featuring a strong and solid base which altogether gives it a perfect design of a touch & type smartphone. The phone weighs 112 gms and measures 118.9 x 59.3 x 11.7 mm on the whole.

Display & Design

Galaxy Chat sports a 3-inch QVGA Capacitive display boosting a resolution of 320 X 240 pixels.It runs on Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich and sports Samsung’s TouchWiz UI 4.0 on the top of it along with Proximity Sensor and accelerometer. The 4-row keypad gives it a glossy touch and comes with a dedicated key for one click access to ChatOn messenger.

Hardware

Samsung Galaxy Chat carries a low specification sheet overall with no words on processor used, the phone packs a 2.0 MP rear camera with video recording capabilities and lacks a front camera. The phone supports all the major video formats like 3GP,  MP4,WMV, H.264 and audio formats such as MP3, AAC, eAAC+, M4A, AMR, WAV.

Connectivity

Galaxy Chat supports both 2G and 3G networks, the 2G band include GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz and the 3G band includes HSPA/UMTS 900, 2100 MHz. The phone has an onboard storage of 4GB expandable upto 32GB via microSD slot. It carries Wi-fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-fi hotspot, microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth v3.0 (A2DP,EDR), GPS, 3G but lacks in HDMI support and NFC. It has FM Radio with RDS and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Extras

The phone comes pre-installed with lot many applications like ChatOn messenger, S planner app, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Adobe Flash, Gtalk, Google Play store to download apps, Game Hub, Text to speech, Digital Compass and a Customizable Favorites Tray where you can pig your frequently used apps. It is empowered by a 1200mAh Li-Ion Standard Battery which promises a good battery backup.

Pricing & Availability

There is no word on the price tag for the Gadget but we accept that it would be quiet nominal looking at the specs. The availability will start from this month first in Spain and then will be rolled out for European countries and Asian markets.
