How to Root Samsung Galaxy Chat GT-B5330 using Odin [Easy Tutorial]

Samsung Galaxy Chat is undoubtedly one of the best budget friendly Android smartphone in the Galaxy line-up. Running, Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich at its heart this headset sports some mid range specification which are at par the requirements of a normal user. Moreover, the touch and type experience add more to its basket of specification. Apart from all this regular array of features you need to optimize the gadget to play some tricks and to have some fun with it.

When it comes to tweaking your Android smartphone the first thing that strikes in our mind is Rooting. Rooting basically gives you access to all the applications which otherwise require root access to perform the working the app is intended to provide. In due course of this article we will be checking “How you can easily root your Galaxy chat” by simply installing some packages. But before we begin, check with the pre-requisite.

Disclaimer: Rooting is a risky task to undertake and if not properly implemented may eventually brick your cellphone. You are yourself responsible for following the below mentioned steps. Technogiantz or any other author will not stand responsible in any case.

Pre – Requisite


  • Make sure you have created a backup of the phone.

  • Make sure USB Debugging is ON. To do this,

Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging

  • Your phone should be more than 50% charged.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy Chat GT-B5330 using Odin – Tutorial


Step 1) Download Galaxy_chat_Root.zip from here. Copy this ZIP package onto the root of your SDCard. Also, download Odin3 v3.07 from here and extract it to your PC. Last, Download Recovery.zip from here.

Step 2) Remember to download the above three files. Now, turn off your phone and boot it in Download mode using the following combination,

Volume Down + Power Button + Home Button

Step 3) After you have entered in download mode, connect your phone to the computer via USB. Run Odin on your computer. Look for the ID:COM section which will turn yellow, it indicates that your phone is ready.

Step 4) Next, click on “PDA” option and select the necessary update file (i.e., recovery.tar.md5) . Now, click on START to commence the installation. When the process is complete, the phone will automatically reboot.

Step 5) Turn off the phone again and this time reboot in recovery mode using this combination,

Volume Up + Home button + Power Button

Press this combination until the logo appears on the screen. Now you are in recovery mode where the touchscreen will not work and the interface would be turned to Blue color, no need to panic. In recovery mode only the physical controls will work. Use Volume Up & Down keys to navigate , Home Screen to make selection and Power button to revert back.

Step 6) Now, select the option “Apply Update from SD card ” and choose the file “Galaxy_chat_Root.zip” present in the root of the SDCard. Now that we are almost done, Reboot your system using the option “system reboot“.

Step 7) Kudos..!!!!!! for your achievement. You’ve successfully rooted your samsung galaxy chat. To check if your phone is rooted, download the “Root Checker App” from the playstore. Congrats, Now you have complete access over your phone.

Note :- If you fail to connect your phone to the PC, there might be a driver problem. First, install the necessary USB drivers of your phone from Samsung’s site and then get back to the tutorial.

      The main reason it doesn’t turn Yellow is because
      the drivers for your phone are missing.
      First, download the drivers from here
      and then proceed.

    bro i still cannot transfer my apps to external sd card on my samsung galaxy chat gt-b5330
    tried a lot of apps but still not working it says not compatible with blah blah something..
    i’ve searched a lot of sites and url but still cannot find the answer.
    perhaps you could help me with my predicament..

      Till now u hv tried many solutions but still the problem persists.
      It can be a prob with Galaxy Chat but I still recommend to Root your phone and try titanium Backup.

    but does it have the feature of moving apps to the external sd card? haven’t discovered this app yet.. hehe
