How to Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Firmware on Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 [Tutorial]

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 has got an unofficial Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade which has Samsung’s very own Nature TouchWiz UX interface and sports a revamped UI. Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is a smartphone with upto date specifications and decent hardware under the hood. It sports a 3.8-inch multi-touch capacitive screen, a 800 Mhz processor coupled with 768 MB RAM and has 4GB of onboard storage including all the major connectivity features.

The default or Stock OS of Ace 2 is Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is too obsolete to use now. Although, Samsung has not officially released any firmware, the firmware provided by Sammobile can re-define and give a new touch to your phone. The Firmware has been dated Feb 17 and bears the serial no. I8160XXMB2 and I8160OXAMB4.

Disclaimer :- Rooting is a risky task to undertake and if not properly implemented may eventually brick your cellphone. You are yourself responsible for following the below mentioned steps. Technogiantz or any other author will not stand responsible in any case.

Pre-Requisite

  • Download the Firmware from here.
  • Make sure your phone is at least 50% charged.
  • Make sure you USB debugging turned ON. To do this,

Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging

  • Make sure you have created a backup of the phone.

Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Firmware on Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160

Step 1) Extract the above downloaded ZIP file to your PC. Now, Install Samsung kies and USB drivers for your phone. You can get the USB drivers from here. Also, download Odin3 v3.07 from here and extract it to your PC.

Step 2) Remember to download all the above files. Now, turn off your phone and boot it in Download mode using the following combination,

Volume Down + Power Button + Home Button

Step 3) After you have entered in download mode, connect your phone to the computer via USB. Run Odin on your computer. Look for the ID:COM section which will turn yellow or blue, it indicates that your phone is ready. If your unable to find this re-install the driver and try again.

Step 4) Ignore this step if you’re already running Jelly Bean, this step is only for Gingerbread. On Odin, click PIT and select the file GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G.pit from the extracted package. Check the re-partition option, leave rest of the things as it is.

Step 5) Next, click PDA and select CODE_I8160XXMB2.tar“, also click CSC and select CSC_OXA_I8160OXAMB4.tar“. Keep the rest of the things as it is. We’re almost done.

Step 6) Go ahead and click “START” to begin the flashing of firmware. Sit back for some time and after few minutes you will see the the top-left corner turned Green in color and displaying “PASS“. If you’re getting this, congrats as you’ve successfully installed the new Jelly Bean firmware on your phone.

Step 7) Remove the USB cable from your PC and reboot your phone. Initially, it will take some time to boot so don’t panic. On start up you will prompted to log-in to your Samsung and Gmail accounts.
